Team DELTA information
As teachers we strive to give our students the best possible learning environment. This includes not only the opportunities for students of all ability levels to learn the required content, but also grow to be independent and motivated learners. It is with this in mind that we have decided to markedly change how our classes are structured and how we assess our students throughout the year.
Middle school students (high school and college too) are trained to look at the grades that they’ve received for their work. Teachers in the Anchorage School District are required to give grades to their students. These grades should reflect how well a student has learned the required material. For better or worse, students, parents and teachers alike can find themselves looking at the grade as an end-all in how well a child is doing in school. We need to ask ourselves, are we doing this work to learn the material, or are we doing this to get a good grade?
Beginning in the spring of 2009, we looked closely at how we teach our classes. We met over the summer and found areas where we could improve. This year we will continue to implement standards-referenced methods in our classrooms so we can reach our students more efficiently and completely. [We may not get it right every time, so thank goodness we have ‘re-dos’.]

Can you see the artist in this picture? Look very closely. He's right in front of your eyes. :-)
